David McAlpine is Global Head of Public Relations at Illumina, a global leader in DNA sequencing and array-based technologies. He leads teams across six continents, overseeing all external communications from the company. His teams also handle internal communications in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
McAlpine moved to Illumina from General Motors, where he led broadcast media relations for America’s top automaker and its vehicle brands. At GM, he headed up all storytelling efforts on television, radio, and digital platforms, as well as served as a spokesperson for the company.
Prior to moving into corporate communications, McAlpine spent a decade working as a producer for local and national TV news outlets. Most recently, he was coordinating producer for CBS News’ award-winning morning show, “CBS This Morning.” He also covered politics, breaking news, and sports as a Washington, D.C.-based field producer for Fox News. McAlpine started his career at KTLA in Los Angeles, later working at KIRO 7 News in Seattle, and Channel 6 Action News in Philadelphia.
McAlpine, an Emmy winner, lives in New York City. He graduated cum laude from the University of Southern California with bachelor’s in Broadcast and Digital Journalism and Neuroscience. He was born and raised in Chicago, where he grew up playing hockey (and still loves the cold to this day!), and loves rooting for the Cubs, the Blackhawks, and the Bears.
